Job Summary
The Studio Teach/Flexible Learning Spaces staff member is relied upon to provide customer service and support to faculty, staff, students, and visitors concerning the College of Education's flexible learning spaces and educational tools in Studio Teach. The student fulfilling this position will assist in maintaining the professional appearance of the space as well as familiarizing themselves with the technology and amenities available, such as:
- iPads, apps, and accessories
- Educational and STEAM Technologies
--3D Printing
--Laser cutting
--AR/VR
--Coding robots
--SMARTBoard
- Micro-makerspace supplies, materials, and projects
- Video conferencing equipment and screencasting technology
- Apple and Windows laptops and their operating systems
Student employees will have the opportunity to be creative and innovative as they work with others to discover ways to present information in a meaningful and usable way.
Expectations and Opportunities:
- Explore tech and demonstrate understanding of functionality and its potential use in the classroom by creating resources that can be shared with others.
- Provide support to students, faculty and staff who request assistance with tech, apps, space, and resources.
- Maintain a safe, healthy and functional environment, online and in-person, for students, faculty and staff. Regular cleaning of equipment and furniture, and testing of technology.
- Be dependable and be able to balance independent work and teamwork.
- Be willing to follow directions when necessary and be self-directed when appropriate.
- Be willing to work towards becoming an expert in using one of our STEAM technologies to contribute to building a strong team.
Staff must be willing and available to help all visitors to our flexible learning spaces. Technical training and guidance are provided and will be completed based on the schedule put forth by the FLS Coordinator. Opportunities for growth and advancement will be made available for the motivated applicant.
In addition to providing general assistance, a successful staff member will also:
1. Assist in maintaining, organizing, and documenting technology and flexible learning spaces such as:
- Testing & cleaning equipment
- Confirming & updating inventory
- Cleaning and organizing the space, equipment, and furniture
- Opportunity to create instructions/tutorials or lead hands-on activities
2. Prepare the reservable area for scheduled classes, meetings and/or events including:
- Arranging/resetting furniture
- Directing attendees as needed
- Ensuring reserved equipment availability and functionality
- Updating signage
- Ensuring the area is clean and presentable
3. Maintain an accurate record of supplies, materials, and equipment available and loaned to students and faculty.
4. Learn the ISTE Standards and the 9 Digital Citizenship elements and demonstrate knowledge of the applicable components.
After your time working with us you will be able to:
- Provide basic technical troubleshooting for technologies and products listed above
- Report unresolved technical issues to COE Helpdesk
- Provide guided support and basic instruction to others regarding the use of the available technology
- Answer common questions and know where answers can be found
- Redirect faculty, staff, students, and visitors to requested resources on campus
- Demonstrate a willingness to learn and apply acquired skills
- Perform other tasks as directed by supervisors
