Job Summary
This position provides support to researchers at Illinois State University with federal, state, and institutional requirements for conducting research on campus. The function of this position is to support the operational and administration process, including research compliance monitoring for the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), consultation with investigators for export controls and IACUC, and preparation of federal reports. This position acts as the liaison between faculty, Office of Research Ethics and Compliance, and compliance committees regarding export controls and IACUC. The position acts as a coordinator of office policies and procedures for Research Ethics & Compliance by the instruction of the Assistant Director of Research Ethics & Compliance.
Salary Rate / Pay Rate
$50,000 - $60,000 annual, combined with an excellent benefit package
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts.
- Two years (24 months) of professional level work experience in research compliance setting, either administration or conducting research.
- Successful experience in project management, administration, and database management.
- Experience in using research administration data management programs and database management, including form design, process development, and implementation.
- The following skills and/or abilities:
a. demonstrated exemplary customer service and public relation skills, diplomacy, and tact working with faculty, students, staff, and/or the general public
b. strong communication skills, both written and oral
c. proficiency with commonly used software and ability to become proficient with applicable databases and online systems
d. ability to work independently and to exercise discretion and judgment in sensitive and potentially controversial matters.

- The following skills and/or abilities:
a. ability to demonstrate knowledge of export control laws, including regulations such as EAR, ITAR, and FAC
b. ability to demonstrate knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and guidance pertaining to animal use such as Animal Welfare Act, PHS Policy on Humane Care and Use of Laboratory Animals
c. proven ability to maintain equanimity under pressure and carry workload responsibility
d. demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and multi-task in a fast-paced work environment
e. good organizational and system skills and superbly detail oriented
f. demonstrated ability to create complex spreadsheets and generate reports using database programs - Certified IACUC Professional credential(s), or prior research compliance experience.
Work Hours
Core Hours: 8:00am-4:30pm Monday through Friday; occasional weekend and evening hours as business needs dictate

The Civil Service examination for this classification is based on your application materials and responses to the supplemental questions. No participation other than submission of applicant materials is required from applicants that qualify to take the exam. If you meet the minimum required qualifications for this position, you will receive a score calculated based on your education and experience, and your name will be placed on the active employment register by exam score. After the application deadline, the names within the top three scores will be referred to the department for interview. The active register for this classification will be voided when the position is filled.
